The Hair Disease Clinic at UDC provides medical consultations for hair loss. The goal of the clinic is three-fold: to provide patients with diagnostic accuracy; to provide patients and their dermatologist with a feasible treatment plan and prognosis; and to train the next generation of dermatologists to be competent diagnosticians using evidence-based medicine to treat hair disorders.

Hair loss can be a complex, and challenging problem, and a thorough history and proper exam is important to arriving at an accurate diagnosis.  This takes time. The hair loss clinic has been created for this purpose and adequate time is allotted to each visit.  The entire visit is dedicated to this one problem to ensure we have enough time to not only take a complete alopecia history and do a thorough hair examination but also to discuss the treatment options and their potential adverse effects.  Several hair disorders are chronic, progressive conditions without known cures. In such instances, the therapeutic goal is to stabilize and ameliorate symptoms. Hair regrowth is not an expectation for scarring forms of hair loss, and there are instances in which patients do not respond to treatment for their conditions.

Because of the limited number of patients we are able to see and our increasingly long wait list, we are only accepting referrals from Canadian certified dermatologists.
