You counsel Mr. Rossi on lid hygiene and avoiding triggers of his rosacea. You prescribe him a topical antibiotic preparation containing metronidazole. Due to the severity of his symptoms, you also prescribe Mr. Rossi a systemic antibiotic, doxycycline, 50 mg PO BID (alternatively 100 mg PO daily). You told him that he would need to be on it for a minimum of 3 months to determine the effect. Afterwards, Mr. Rossi asks you if the antibiotics will cure his ocular rosacea.
